Rheuben A. Johnson Sr. was born October 3, 1928, in Texarkana, Texas to Milton and Rosie Lee Johnson. Rheuben was the fourth child born to this union.

Rheuben graduated from Dunbar High School in Texarkana, Texas in 1948. He met and married Verna Lee Tramble, Texas, and from that union three children, Rheuben A. Johnson II \"Chuck,\" Gregory Johnson, and Janice Eloise Johnson were born. In 1953 the family moved to Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately Verna Lee passed away in 1985.

Rheuben was gainfully employed for 30 years at J.C. Garrett & Company as a Production Manager.

Rheuben later met Helen Clark and she remained his companion until her passing.

Rheuben was preceded in death by his parents Milton Johnson, and Rosie Lee Johnson, his wife Verna Lee Johnson, daughter Janice Hodge, his companion Helen Clark, siblings: Milton Johnson, Florine Bowman, Esteen Boyce, Julia Fergerson, and Verna Lee Jackson; and granddaughter Tyra Austin.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons: Rheuben A. Johnson II, and Gregory Johnson; brothers: Paul Johnson, and Elbert Johnson; grandchildren: Terel Johnson, DuShawn (wife Bonita) Hodge, Naima (husband Rudy) Sanchez, Gregory Johnson II, Damien Johnson, and Gwen Johnson. He also leaves a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
