In Loving Memory of Elva Mae Fluence
June 30, 1947 - January 14, 2021
Elva Mae Fluence was born June 30, 1947, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, to her loving parents Humella Fluence Sr. and Elvie Jones Fluence (both preceded her in death). She was the second child of four children; Idella Fluence Baker, Brenda J. Fluence, and Humella Fluence Jr.
Elva accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the young age of 9 years. She was baptized along with her older sister Idella who was 10 years at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana by Rev. John S. Duncan.
Elva, who was affectionately known as "Mae" by close family, was an outgoing and inquisitive child who did not mind voicing her opinions. Many thought that Elva and Idella were twins, although they were one year and one week apart.
In June of 1960, the Fluence Family moved from New Orleans to Los Angeles, California, where Elva continued her education at Markham Middle School in Los Angeles. In June of 1966, she graduated along with her sister Idella from David Starr Jordan High School, where she received high marks.
Elva began her formal education at Harbor City College in 1966 until she was accepted into the St. Francis Hospital X-Ray Technician program in Lynwood, California. Elva was immediately hired after completion of the program, where she excelled in her specialty of Mammography from 1968 to approximately 1989. There she met her lifelong friend Ava Coleman, where they shared a special bond to this day. She was also selected to be apart of the St. Francis Radiology Team International Conference, in which she traveled to Spain, Portugal & North Africa with select co-workers.
In 1990, she began her new journey at Healthcare Management Group, which turned into Mulliken Medical Center in Torrance as a Mammographer, where she was so liked by many patients and staff members. Here she met another lifelong friend, Charey Byous and Monique Jones who she adored being a big sister to and sharing advice. Unfortunately, Elva had to leave in August of 2003 due to medical issues and finally retired from working in 2005.
After retirement, Elva spent a lot of time taking care of and loving her close-knit family. She loved going out to the movies, special events, dining, and shopping with her sisters, nieces, and nephew. One of her most joys in life was spoiling her nieces and nephew to no end. She attended every milestone they accomplished and always offered advice, encouragement, and praises.
On Thursday, January 14, 2021, Elva was swiftly called home to be with her Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her two sisters: Idella Fluence Baker, Brenda J. Fluence; one brother Humella Fluence Jr., two nieces: Catherine Baker, Shonnyce Baker Murvin (Jamal); three great-nieces: Jasmine Davis, Jalia Murvin, Jayda Murvin; one great-nephew Justin Davis, two godchildren: Yvette Blanton, Christian Murvin; three best friends: Ava Coleman, Charey Byous, Monique Jones, and a host of relatives and close friends.
