In Loving Memory of Bertha D. Gatlin

November 12, 1952 - January 8, 2021

Bertha Deloris Gatlin, named after her grandmother on her father's side, was born on November 12, 1952, at the Los Angeles County Hospital, to Claude Gatlin from Mississippi and Rebecca Bettis Gatlin from Alabama.

Bertha attended 139th Street Elementary School, Vanguard Junior High School, and Centennial High School. Bertha further her education by attending Compton Adult School, where she obtained a CNA Certificate. Likewise, at Lynwood Nursing School, receiving an LVN License, she earned the highest grade at both schools.

Bertha worked for convalescent homes and Pacific Bell. She also worked for Crenshaw Adult Day Care, and she worked with her mother doing in-home maintenance. Lastly, she worked at Rancho Dominguez Community Center.

Bertha was an excellent cook, making healthy meals for our parents in their later years. She was good at arts and crafts and playing games. She also worked and helped out with babysitting her nieces, nephews, and grand-nephews. Bertha's hobbies included studying the word of God, looking at her programs, and listening to gospel music.

Bertha was called home on January 8, 2021, while at Martin Luther King Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Rebecca Gatlin, her twins Najib and Joma Hood, and a niece, Tiffany.

Bertha leaves to cherish her memories, her brother Aaron, sister Cecelia, nephews: Quntin, Jonathon, and David; grandnephews: Xavier, Doniel, Jokori David; grandnieces: Kenya, Qerri, Cheyona, Zenae, and Nglia; great-grandnephew Meir. She also leaves a host of relatives and friends.
